Surprisingly good for an unknown small kindle collection. Pearson is no stager to dynamic storytelling, but has primarily made a career out of thrillers, cinematic and literary. This is his venture into the horror realm and it's utterly credible and utterly disturbing. The stories are well written, original and striking in their...well, appropriately enough, darkness. This series of short stories is simply awesome. Going to start reading another one of his books right now. I could barely put this book down. He is by far my favorite author.
A great collection. Luckily I got it free as a promotion but if I hadn't it's still well worth the money. This is definitely an author I'll be reading more of.
What a great experience. I sat back and enjoyed these little stories so much. They were smart, twisty, disturbing, and well-written. I read the book in one sitting. There are four short stories, and every one was engrossing. I hope Pearson has more shorties up his sleeve! This was my fourth Pearson novel, and he has rooted himself as one of my favorites. I love how he isn't confined to any one genre - all his writing is so different and fresh, and DARK AND DARKER is no exception.

Excellent storytelling, unobvious twists - I loved it. Have recommended it.
The world painted darkly in shadows and dust, the darkness alive with subtle movements and fear-filled intimations, the grip of dread squeezing tighter around your neck - this is Dark and Darker by Ryne Douglas Pearson. Four wonderfully scary stories that you will not be able to put down, least of all forget. Read these aloud for maximum effect, and bring a friend; you won't want to read this alone.
Interestingly, the order of the stories in Dark and Darker are in the order I enjoyed them the most.
Beholder was the only story with multiple viewpoints, and it really developed the two characters it followed well. It did something I personally like in a story - the viewpoints of the main character were in the 'current' timeline, while the viewpoints of the 'villain' started in the past, each scene progressing through his life to meet up with the current time frame. This style can annoy others, but I find it fascinating and it built the final reveal very well. A superbly written story.
Creation had a fantastic twist at the end, and then a slightly annoying double twist that I wasn't totally sold on. It built up well, and the reveal of the first twist at the end was brilliant. Another well-written story.
The last two stories were shorter than the first two. I liked them both, but not as much as the first two. The Key left the ending very open, while for Shark I wasn't 100% sold on the premise or the characters. Both stories were still very good, but not my favourites.
Despite my reservations with the last two stories, I enjoyed reading the book. The writing was solid and engaging, the characters were strong (developing and changing in the first three stories), and most importantly I didn't want to stop reading. Ryne is a very good writer, and I plan on reading more of his books in the future.
I rate Dark and Darker a well-deserved five stars.
